Essentiual gadgets and equipment to child-proof the danger zones in your
home.
Danger Points in your home for your children
Even when babies are tiny and don't crawl they need your home to be safe.
Make sure you have a smoke alarm fitted and that you check the battery
frequently. A fire blanket is a useful addition to your kitchen and could
save your life.
As children start to crawl you'll need to move things out of their way
and cover up things that could be dangerous. Plug sockets need covering
over and drawers need to be secured so they can't be pulled open as children
start to try and pull themselves up.
Keep all medicines safe and secure and well out of the reach of children,
A lockable cabinet is useful or safety catches to ensure children can't
open the one you have.
The kitchen is a major source of problems and potential hazards. Keeping
kids out altogether is probably the easiest option. Using a child safety
gate can be effective.
Fridge locks will stop children going in to the fridge and breaking eggs,
or leaving the door open.
Cupboards at child level shouldn't have anything poisonous in - never
decant poisons or cleaning products into drinks bottles. Lockable units
are available for safe storage of bleach and other dangerous products.
They have an enormous amount of child safety products for your entire
home.
Baby Monitors help yopu check that your baby is ok when its sleeping and
they also have an out and about monitor which sounds when your child moves
out of range. Baby monitors give you great peace of mind and also allow
you to hear when your baby is awake and needs feeding.
Appliance Safety locls for the toilet, oven, microwave, fridge, VCR. These
allow you to protect your child and keep them, safe in the home. Our hint
is to keep them out of the kitchen with a chld safety gate too as there
are many dangers in the kitchen - too many tmepting things on worktops
your toddler might reach for an pull on them. Keep appliances at the back
of worktops away from the edge, don't leave knives about on worktops,
and get a fridge lock so that they don't either trash your fridge contents
(or eat them all) or leave the door open.
Bathroom Safety - the bathroom is also a dangerous place and you should
never leave your baby or child alone in the bath unattended. I know one
family who's little boy emptied the jewellery box down the loo - a simple
loo lock would have prevented this!
Keep medicines locked up out of reach of children.
Car Safety - it horrifies me to see parents putting children in the car
and not strapping them in safely. Allowing children to stand up in the
car is irresponsible and very dangerous. Even a small bump by another
vehicle could seriously injure the child and others in the car. Always
strap in your kids, even on the shortest journey!
Door Safety - you can stop heavy doors swinging shut on little fingers
by using special door hinge covers, door jams and other door safety devices.
Every home should have smoke alarms and a first aid kit. If you haven't
then they're available at safetots.
